Grand Valley State's women's track team won the NCAA II Team Challenge hosted by the University of Findlay. The Lakers tallied 160 points in the two day meet, 51.5 points ahead of second place Ashland. Grand Valley will host the GVSU Open on Friday, Feb. 9 at 4:00 p.m. in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
Senior Jennifer O'Shesky took fifth place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.02, which was good for four points. O'Shesky (26.87) and senior Liz Shinn (27.08) both scored points in the 200 meter dash as they finished in seventh and eighth place respectively. Freshman Kirsten Nozime took seventh in the 400 meter dash, running a time of 1:00.99.
Three Lakers scored points in the 800 meter run as freshman Katherine McCarthy won the event with an NCAA provisional time of 2:16.76. Junior Suzie Rivard finished in fourth place with a time of 2:18.28 and senior Brandi Murrell took sixth place as she ran a 2:19.77.
Freshman Lori Burgess finished in third place in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:08.35, while sophomore Kelly Gibbons took fourth place (5:09.04), and senior Stephanie Kandas ran a time of 5:12.93, which was good for sixth place. Four Lakers took four out of the top five spots in the 3,000 meter run. Junior Rosanna Chapman placed second in a time of 10:39.12, freshman Amy Kolin ran a time of 10:39.85 for a third place finish, sophomore Sarah Kulczycki took fourth place (10:40.03), and junior Meggie Grube finished in fifth place as she ran a time of 11:00.93.

Freshman Maegan Doyen won the high jump with a qualifying mark of 5-06.50, sophomore Heather VanderSlik placed second with a qualifying mark of 5-05.75, and senior Meredith DeVries took fifth place, posting a qualifying mark of 5-05.75.
Sophomore Emily Fox finished in third place in the shot put with an NCAA qualifying mark of 45-01.50 and junior Mary Bogner took seventh place with a throw of 38-11.75. Three GVSU women also scored in the weight throw with sophomore Emily Fox leading the way as she took first with an NCAA qualifying throw of 56-01.25. Junior Kathie Posa finished in fourth place, also recording a qualifying mark (53-09.25) and junior Mary Bogner placed eighth with a throw of 48-10.75.
