Hillsdale, Mich. - Despite a strong performance from Erin Cyplik, Grand Valley State lost to Hillsdale College by a final score of 77-65. Cyplik scored a season-high 19 points, making all seven of her free throw attempts. The season-high was not enough to fend off Hillsdale's Katie Cezat, who finished the game with 34 points and 12 rebounds. Grand Valley State's record is now 13-7 overall, with a GLIAC mark of 8-3. Their next game is Saturday, Feb. 2 against Ashland.
Lauren Buresh also had a strong game for the Lakers, tying her career-high with 13 points on a perfect 5-5 night from the field. Crystal Zick finished with 14 points, three steals and three assists. Buresh got the night started for Grand Valley State, putting in a layup 51 seconds into the game to make the score 2-0.
After Hillsdale took the lead 13-12, Kim Wyngaard scored in the paint to go up 14-13 and send the Lakers on a run. Zick and Jocelyn Ingram hit back-to-back threes, followed by another Wyngaard layup and an Ingram free throw made the score 23-13 after an 11-0 run. Ingram recorded five points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Hillsdale stormed back and tied the game at 25-25 with 3:47 left in the first half. Grand Valley stuck with the Chargers, but with 2:35 remaining in the first 20 minutes, Hillsdale scored the last seven points of the half to go into the break up 35-28.
