Laker Defense Claims 48-14 Win In Black & Blue Spring Game

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State concluded spring drills Saturday afternoon at Lubbers Stadium with its annual Blue & Black game. The Laker defense claimed a 48-14 victory over the offense. The game is scored using a non-conventional scoring system where the defense scores points based on incompletions, tackles for loss and turnovers. The Laker coaching staff held around 30 players out of the game.

Sophomore QB Marquel Neasman completed completed 4-of-8 passes for 45 yards and a TD. WR Nick Freer caught three passes for 44 yards and a TD, while RB Lawrence Kimball rushed 11 times for 27 yards. The defense was led by defensive linemen Keioshe Jones, Ricky Thomas and Steve Gawronski, while linebackers Jordan Munson, Justin Victor, Brad Howard, Blair Thomas and Brandon Allen all made significant contributions. Safeties Matt Bakker and Zach Breen also contributed in the win.

Grand Valley State will open the 2008 season Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. versus the University of Indianapolis in Lubbers Stadium.
