Allendale, Mich. - #2 Grand Valley State raced out to a 49-24 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 95-39 victory over Marygrove College Tuesday (Dec. 27). GVSU improves to 7-0 on the year and will open the GLIAC portion of its schedule Saturay (Dec. 1) at Lake Superior State.
Callistus Eziukwu opened the game with a dunk, followed by a Nick Freer dunk. Freer added a pair of free throws and another dunk, while Eziukwu scored in the paint to give the Lakers a 14-9 lead. Justin Ringler scored on a layup to up the Laker lead to double-digits (23-12). All seven first-half field goals by Marygrove came from behind the three-point line. GVSU outscored Marygrove 46-15 in the second half.
No Laker played more than 20 minutes, with all but one playing at least 13 minutes. Senior guard Jason Jamerson led the way with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor and 4-of-7 behind the three-point line. Callistus Eziukwu and Nick Freer each scored 12 points. GVSU shot 59.7 percent from the floor, while Marygrove shot just 28.6 percent. GVSU forced 30 Maverick turnovers, while turning the ball over a season-low nine times.
