Callistus Eziukwu Works Out for NBA Teams

Last season, Callistus Eziukwu was leading the Lakers to a second consecutive NCAA DII Elite Eight appearance. This summer, Eziukwu is working to impress NBA scouts in an attempt to make a roster for next season.

GVSU Names Jeff Bauer Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Grand Valley State head men's basketball coach Ric Wesley announced today that Jeff Bauer has been named the top assistant in the men's basketball program. Bauer replaces Burt Paddock who left to become the head coach at Davenport University. Bauer has been an assistant coach in the GVSU men's basketball program the last two years, while also handling the role of Athletic Director at Tri-County High School.

Grand Valley State head men's basketball coach Ric Wesley announced that Jerret Smith will transfer to Grand Valley State and compete for the Lakers beginning with the 2008-09 season. Smith most recently spent three years at the University of Michigan.

On May 15 Davenport University announced the hiring of Burt Paddock as the head coach for the Panther men's basketball program. Paddock, who has served as the GVSU men's basketball assistant coach for the past four years, will take over a young Davenport program that was 10-21 in 2007.

Grand Valley State senior center Callistus Eziukwu pulled in another all-american award when he was named D2 Bulletin First Team All-American. GVSU senior guard Jason Jamerson was named an D2 Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American. Eziukwu and Jamerson led Grand Valley State to best single-season record (36-1) in school history. The Lakers claimed the GLIAC Tournament title, the NCAA DII Great Lakes Regional crown and advanced to its second straight NCAA DII Elite Eight. The Lakers' 36 wins are the second most in a single-season in DII history.

#1 Grand Valley State claimed a 69-52 victory over St. Joseph's College Saturday night in an NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional quarterfinal contest. Grand Valley State (34-0) will square off in a semifinal contest Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. versus Northern Kentucky Unviversity (21-7). Gannon will play Findlay in the first semifinal contest Sunday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
